1) When do applications open and close?
a. The period for the application is October 1st, 2024 to May 1st 2025. Learn more about how to apply go to our Apply Page.
2) Do I need to be a nurse to apply for the program?
a. No, you do not have to be a nurse to apply to the program. Please reference our eligibility requirements on our apply page for more information.
3) What is the difference between a Certified Professional Midwives, Certified Midwives, and Certified Nurse Midwives?
a. Please reference our white paper to understand the differences between the different midwifery professionals: LINK
4) What components of my application are required to complete?
a. Applicants must complete the following components:
RI CPM EI Preliminary inquiry application: CPM Questionnaire Form
Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery Program (CCSM)
Application: Application Link
RI CPM Equity Initiative Scholarship Application: (Please note: this application will be sent to applicants after they have gained acceptance into CCSM

5) Can I have a preceptor from Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Massachusetts?
a. Yes, however, please refer to your CMC Advisor at Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery (CCSM) approved preceptors. Please do not directly reach out to Midwives for preceptorship.
6) What are the RI CPM EI Scholarship Eligibility Requirements?
To potentially gain acceptance, applicants must meet the following requirements
for the RI CPM EI Program Include:
1) Have a High School Graduate or GED
2) Be a Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts resident
3) Be Accepted and enrolled as a student into the Commonsense School of Midwifery (applicants must have completed all prerequisites prior)
4) Commit to in-person weekly class group attendance (Friday *unless placed at clinical residency prior to class start date)
5) Complete agreement for CCSM approved preceptor (provided by CCSM). Participant must be able to accept a potential out of state clinical placement to a CCSM high- volume clinical site or birth center or CCSM-approved preceptorship and onboarding
Please note that being eligibility does not denote automatic acceptance into the RI CPM EI.
7) How do I stay in compliance with the CPM EI Scholarship Program once I have been approved for the scholarship?
a. In order to retain the scholarship for 3 years of study, you will need to stay in compliance with all of the requirements of the school and meet all
applicable deadlines related to the school and the scholarship program. This includes but is not limited to meeting deadlines of starting and
completing with passing marks all mandatory clinicals and coursework, and filling out and submitting applicable forms requested.
